RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty is carried out not only for aesthetic reasons but can also for improving the function of the nose. In case of rhinoplasty the surgeon manipulates the cartilage of the nose for correcting the structure and shape of the nose. At times there might not be enough support structure in the nose for making proper changes therefore the nose surgeon ends up using cartilage from the ear or ribs for reconstructing the nose. Rhinoplasty is carried out either in an open or closed procedure.

In nearly 20% of rhinoplasty operations it becomes important to select the right surgeon during the first time itself. The rhinoplasty surgeon selected should be board certified and be able to provide you with plenty of references. Whenever you go and meet the rhinoplasty surgeon you would like to see several pictures of noses which would help in explaining the look you would want to achieve.

You should take your time in consultation phase and this is the first basic step in ensuring that you undergo a successful rhinoplasty procedure. Ask as many questions as you can so that you feel comfortable before going under the knife. Your rhinoplasty surgeon should take time in explaining the risks of this type of surgery and what results you could expect at the end of the day.

You should always consult with a board certified doctor to help in choosing whether you would want to go for an open or closed rhinoplasty. Keep in mind that revision nose surgery is carried out using open technique due to complexity and scar tissue. At the end of the day you have to decide which nose surgery you would like to go for – open or closed nose surgery and in this case it is best to consider the opinion of your surgeon.
