RHINOPLASTY SWELLING
Everyone going for rhinoplasty should expect some kind of swelling to some extent. There is no manner in which you could avoid swelling in areas such as nose, eyes and facial area in general. In several people swelling could last for several months but there are certain steps you should take both before and after surgery for reducing the amount of swelling experienced after rhinoplasty.
Swelling around the nose and eye starts immediately after rhinoplasty surgery. On the first day it continues to increase but it gets worse as time goes by and reaches its peak after two or three days. After a week swelling tends to disappear. In general the remaining subtle swelling does not get detected by other people. In case of excessive swelling and redness lasting for more than a week, one should consult their rhinoplasty surgeon as this could be a sign of complication.
Given below are tips for reducing swelling after rhinoplasty:
Go for a low sodium diet
Don’t take ibuprofen or aspirin for at least ten days before date of surgery
Don’t take alcoholic drinks at least five days before surgery
Keep your head elevated while you’re asleep
Don’t go for non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs at least seven days before going surgery
Apply cold compress around your nose area but in an indirect manner
Avoid bending so that your head is below your heart
In case you feel uncomfortable still don’t try to remove the nasal tape and splints placed by the doctor as it helps in keeping your nose in shape.
